Employment Workshops with Victory Village Veterans

Mother Lode Job Training, in partnership with Victory Village Veterans Services, has been invited to participate in the second employment workshop. This workshop will be led by Steve Thorn, director of Veterans Employment, Betty Johnson, Supported Employment and Case Manager with Calaveras County Health & Human Services, and Annette Solis Rios, Center Manager of Mother Lode Job Training Amador. These partnerships have given us an opportunity to provide workshops to our community members, creating great skillsets to aid with the job seeking process.

The workshop will be held every Thursday at 10:00AM at Bistro49 on 250 French Bar Road in Jackson and will be meeting in the restaurant's outdoor patio. The workshops will begin on January 28th, but late start will be accommodated. This 6 week online and in-person workshop includes creating career catalogs, creating an individual master application, understanding work values, building resumes and cover letters, utilizing a realistic budget, conducting mock interviews and so much more! This partnership is looking forward to witnessing our community members learn these special skills and achievements to then give back to our wonderful community we call home.

Register for the event by calling (209) 223-2286.

Client Success Story: Calaveras Lumber

Francisco has been out of school for about a year, and trying to land that first real job has been hard. Prior to Francisco requesting services with Mother Lode Job Training, he had worked at a local fast-food restaurant, but was only able to complete 1 day of work before feeling overwhelmed and under prepared. After multiple applications and attempts to find suitable work, Francisco turned to MLJT for help finding a job that would fit his career goals, values and interests and get him prepared for the future. Our Work Experience (WEX) program fit him perfectly, and Francisco is currently in his 2nd month of paid work experience training, and taking advantage of the opportunity he has before him. His supervisor Andrew, seen above with Vice President Jodie and owner Mike, is pleased to provide the hands-on experience for young adults just entering the workforce.

Participants get to work in all the departments, get real experience with providing the expert level of customer service Calaveras Lumber is known for, and have the opportunity to network with local business people and contractors in the construction trades, one of the in-demand industries in our region.

Thanks Calaveras Lumber for your partnership and investment in Calaveras’ economic future!

Caltrans Virtual Hiring Event

Are you interested in working in the transportation industry? Caltrans and Mother Lode Job Training will be hosting a Virtual Hiring Event on February 9th, 2021 from 10:00- 12:00 pm. Caltrans will be hiring for positions throughout Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties.

CalHR reports that there are 73 anticipated permanent openings in Caltrans District 10, which includes Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Tuolumne Counties, in addition to Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus.

“We need people all over the state, but District 10 is among the hardest to find people for,” says Michelle G. Avalos, Office Chief of Examinations, Recruitment, and Executive Selection Services for California Human Resources.

In addition to needing to hire multiple permanent Commercial Drivers who already have a Class A, Caltrans is interested in recruiting people who can obtain a Class A within the first 12 months of employment, and is also looking to fill 3 custodian positions.

The application process can be difficult to navigate, acknowledges Avalos, which is why Caltrans is partnering with Mother Lode Job Training to offer this hiring event featuring human resources staff and experienced Caltrans employees currently working in the field for in depth information sharing, questions and answers, along with help applying for the jobs themselves.

Register for the hiring event by clicking here or on the flyer above. Pre-registration in CalCareers is recommended, but not required.
